A Dutch company is looking for innovative technologies, materials and ideas to increase the use efficiency of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

A Dutch company is part of a leading multinational and produces high-quality and innovative fertilizers. Currently, the use efficiency does not meet the high demands of a sustainable agriculture. They are seeking companies, academics and other experts in fertilizers, agriculture, crop growth and nutrient use efficiency with novel technologies and ideas to increase the effectiveness of the use of fertilizer. Cooperation is anticipated via research or technical cooperation or license agreement.

A Dutch company is part of a large global operating multinational and produces and markets an extensive range of proprietary high-quality and innovative products with the purpose of providing growers, farmers, greenkeepers and groundsmen around the world with solutions for stronger and healthier grass, plants and crops.
The company is one of the world’s largest producers of potash and an integrated producer of a variety of products based on phosphate rock, including phosphate fertilizers, phosphoric acid and animal feed additives.
Fertilizers are one of the key product-groups of the multinational with 13.000 employees and a turnover of 4.8 billion Euros. The company has fertilizer production sites across the world, including several sites in Europe. The marketing and sales departments, as well as logistics departments are based in The Netherlands.
The company is dedicated to a greener world and is therefore continuously improving its products and developing technologies that improve the environmental profile of plant nutrition.

Today, a significant part of all fertilizers added by the farmer to the soil, does not benefit the plant or crop due to i. leaching nitrogen (N), ii. so called “evaporation” of nitrogen (due to nitrification/denitrification processes) or iii. immobilization in the soil (phosphorus (P) and potassium (K)).
For instance, the nutrient use efficiencies of corn were found to be approximately only 33% for N, 16% for P and 19% for K. These low percentages are far from efficient for the farmer and a burden for the environment. Furthermore, it is the intention of the EU commission to reduce the use of fertilizers in the future.
Therefore, the company strongly believes that the improvement of nutrient use efficiency is essential to secure sufficient food supply to the growing human population and meet the demands of a sustainable agriculture.

In order to increase the effectiveness of the use of fertilizer and to minimize the environmental pressure, the company is looking for innovative ideas, technologies and procedures to improve i. the uptake of fertilizers by plants or crops and/or ii. the availability of fertilizers to plants or crops.
Furthermore, the company serves a wide range of fertilizer markets, e.g. from row crops to horticulture and from specialty agriculture to turf. The company is also producing conventional, solid fertilizers as well as specialty fertilizers (solid, controlled release, water soluble or liquids) for e.g. fertigation and foliar applications.

Therefore, the company is looking for partners who are skilled in the art of the development of innovative technologies, procedures, materials and/or other out of the box idea’s to improve nutrient use efficiency for all of the above mentioned applications. A research agreement, technology agreement or license agreement is foreseen.
