An Italian SME expert in the field of additive manufacturing processes, in response to the Covid-19 emergency, designed and prototyped a facial personal protection device. Prototypes were developed following instructions from healthcare professionals and then tested. In order to produce the devices, transparent, smooth PET, polyester, or similar material for the transparent visors and elastomeric hygienized band suppliers need to be found under a supplier agreement.
An Italian small company, established in 2008, is dealing in the design and building of sailing yachts up until 2012, with a focus on competitive sailboats and aiming to develop innovative materials, design, and construction methods.
The company has extended its core business to experimental research and to the development of innovative additive manufacturing processes.
The company cooperates with a business incubator in Italy.
In response to the Covid-19 emergency, in March 2020 the SME designed and prototyped a facial personal protection device.
It is a PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) device, shielding face, neck and respiratory tract from external agents, liquids and infected aerosol.
The device is made of 3 elements:
1. Transparent visor for face and respiratory tract protection. Holes in the upper half allow the insertion of the frame. It’s made either in transparent, smooth PET, polyester, or similar material.
Thickness: 0.25 mm /0.5 mm - Area: 0.1 m^2
2. Light frontal frame, supporting the visor and adhering to the forehead. It’s made in high-density EVA or polyethylene foam, or similar material.
3. Elastic band, compressing the frame to the forehead to allow adhesion. Made of an elastomeric material, it’s hygienized and then tied to the frame. A velcro-strap closure solution is currently under evaluation.
The company is producing the first batches of visors and urgently needs transparent, smooth PET, polyester, or similar material for the transparent visors and elastomeric hygienized band for compressing the frame to the forehead.
Even although the required materials do not have particular characteristics, however in this moment it is difficult to find suppliers. In case of commercial partners able to supply what is requested, a supply agreement will be signed.
Since the required materials belong to different types, it is possible to answer even for the supply of only one of the two types.
